Passaic County Superior Court: Jurisdiction

The Passaic County Superior Court has jurisdiction over all indictable criminal offenses committed in Passaic County. Indictable criminal offense means any criminal offense which includes potential jail exposure of more than six (6) months in the county. Indictable criminal offenses range from 4th degree (18 months maximum in State prison) to 1st degree (which includes between ten (10) to twenty (20) years in prison) if convicted. Offenses involving jail exposure of six (6) months or less are referred to as Disorderly Persons Offenses and are typically heard by the municipal court of the town where the alleged violation occurred.
